Our Lady Guadalupe Matachines

The Our Lady Guadalupe Matachines dance at Holy Cross Friday to show the students the traditional dances for the Our Lady Guadalupe December 12th celebration. The celebration is to honor the day that Mary appeared on the cloak of Juan Diego as proof of his claim that she appeared to him three days prior. These traditional dances are prayers danced towards an icon of Mary.

Karina Gomez, 18, danced as the leader of the Our Lady Guadalupe Matachines Friday at Holy Cross.

The Our Lady Guadalupe Matachines dance quick steps that make their dress sway and spin as they move at Holy Cross Friday. The dancers came to Holy Cross to show the students the traditional dances for the upcoming celebration on December 12th.
